About Us

Kuster Farms was started in 2010 by Ernest & Elesa Kuster, in the Cane Creek Valley just outside of Asheville, NC.  The farm specializes in blue lake green beans and edamame, and also has a variety of vegetables that are sold in local markets, restaurants, and retail stores.  The farm is family owned and operated, and utilizes mechanical harvesting, and strives to maintain sustainability and insecticide free methods.

Ernest Kuster was born on a progressive dairy, poultry and grain farm in central western NJ.  Our family had 400 dairy cows, 100,000 laying hens and 2700 arces of corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, silage and other assorted crops.  Ernie is a graduate of Purdue University with a BS degree in Ag Economics and ran the family farm from 1981- 1987 when it was sold.

Ernie then began his teaching career working for Rutgers University and the University of Florida as a Cooperative Extension Agent.  He took a position for Palm Beach County Schools, teaching Veterinarian Science and Technology.  In 1994, he moved to Buncombe County and began teaching Agriculture Education to young adults at AC Reynolds High School where he continues to teach.
